The Group Scarf

When the Group started in March 1915 the scarf colour was red (scarlet). In September 1927 this was changed to dark blue with a light blue trim and would change again to yellow and white (Papal colours) although the exact date of this change is not known.

It appears that during the 1960s the colours morphed into gold and white (perhaps yellow was no longer available or became dirty!). Again it is not known exactly when this change happened or why.

To mark the Group’s centenary in 2015 and to remind ourselves of our Catholic heritage the colours were changed back to yellow and white.

As all our young people know, when wearing the scarf, it is always ‘white on the right’

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
