Explorers provides the opportunity for those young people aged between 14 and 18 to further continue their scouting journey and many have progressed all the way from being a Beaver.
The Explorer Unit meets on a Friday, 7.30pm-9.30pm.
As a Unit we take part in a number of activities such as bowling, go karting, laser quest and climbing. We have about 25 Explorers at present and are growing year on year thanks to the feed from the Scout Section. Explorers is an excellent opportunity to escape from the constant studying of school and enjoy a couple of hours of entertainment!
Nikki Hurst – Explorer Scout Leader
.
Graham Mountain - Assistant Explorer Leader
I work with Nikki and other explorer leaders to help provide explorer scouting to scouts primarily coming up from 17th but also those joining from 5th Reigate.
Recently due to sudden retirement of a long serving Scout Leader at 5th, I've also relinquished my role as a Cub Leader role at 5th and taken on Scout Leader role providing a fun a challenging programme for the Scout section but still retaining my role with Explorers
I've completed all my necessary training but am also an instructor in archery, climbing and air rifle shooting, as well as obtaining a hill walking permit and qualifying as a Duke of Edinburgh expedition assessor. Additionally I have taken and passed all 3 amateur radio licence exams enabling both 17th and 5th groups to participate in JOTIJOTA each year.
